Get Involved

The Grosvenor Road allotment site is run completely by it’s volunteer members. We need people with a wide range of skills to get involved and make this a sustainable site for the future.

Committee

We’re always looking for enthusiastic members to help steer SHAS and support the allotment community. No prior experience is necessary, just a bit of time and a desire to get involved.

Site Maintenance

There is a large amount of maintenance that must be carried out to keep our site safe and tidy outside of each individual plot. We have a site manager but it requires the help of volunteers who can lend a hand with their expertise and tools where necessary.

Tasks such as:

  • Clearing abandoned plots to allow them to be re-let
  • Maintaining taps
  • Fixing communal tools and equipement
  • Weeding communal areas such as outside the Hoe Down

Tasks are allocated via a WhatsApp chat.

Litter Picking

Regular litter picks keep our boundary fence clear.

Social Events

The committee takes on the organising of the main social events but if you have any ideas or suggestions or want to volunteer to help out at a particular event then please do! The full list of social events is on the What’s On page.

Saturday/Sunday Socials

Saturday/Sunday Socials are our fortnightly get togethers on a Saturday or Sunday morning at the Hoe Down. You can volunteer to host a regular session or just a one off but it is a great way to get to know the community. You will need to buy some milk (expenses reimbursed with receipt) and open and close the Hoe Down. The dates for all of the Socials are in the What’s On page.

Trading Hut

The trading hut is open every weekend during the growing season and is staffed by a group of volunteers on a rota. The shift is around 2 hours and you are generally only needed once every six to eight weeks.
