Facilities

The Hoe Down

Our amenity building, the Hoe-Down, is located opposite the Trading Hut and is available to all members during the growing season (It is unavailable when the water has been turned off on the site for the winter). It provides a rest area, kettle, and toilet facilities adapted for disabled access.

The building is kept locked for security. Members can purchase a key from the Trading Hut.

The Hoe-Down is maintained by volunteers, so please leave it tidy and ensure it is locked when you leave.

Toilets

The Hoe-Down has two toilets, one of which is wheelchair accessible. Both are available whenever the site water supply is on.

Trading Hut

We have our own shop, known as The Trading Hut. For stock lists and opening times please see the dedicated page.

Access Gates

We have three secure access gates to our site. The key for the locks is issued to plot holders at the start of their tenancy. It is important that these are always locked and you do not let people through the gate that you do not recognise.

Getting here

We encourage everyone who is able, to travel to our site by sustainable means where possible.

Bike parking

We do not have any secure bike storage on site. We’d love you to travel by bike but it is best for you to keep your bike with you on your plot for security.

Car Parking

Free on-street parking is available alongside Grosvenor Road. No permits are required. Parking may be busy during weekends when games are being played at Ashton Park across the road.

Cars are not allowed to be brought onto site except with the permission of the commitee.

There are no electric vehicle (EV) charging points at our site.

Accessibility

Accessible toilet

We have one fully accessible toilet on site in the Hoe Down, however this is only open during the main growing season while the water is turned on.

Accessible plot / raised bed plot

We have one wheelchair accessible plot which consists of brick built raised beds and hard standing for a standard wheelchair to use. This plot is currently rented and not available. If you wish to discuss accessibility for a plot please email allotments@shas.org.uk

Grants

Grants for adaptations or tools that would help make the site more accessible for you are available via the Gardening with Disabilities Trust.

Emergency Services

In case of an emergency please call 999.

If you need to direct emergency services to the site, please give them the following What3Words location for your closest gate:

What3Words divides the world into 3 metre squares, each with a unique three word address. Emergency services in the UK are familiar with the system and can use it to find an exact location quickly.

AED Device

We do not have an AED device on site. There is one publicly available in Ashton Park and 999 will give instructions on its use.

First aid kits

First aid kits are available in the Tool Shed and the Hoe Down however this are in locked locations so it is wise for each plot holder to have a small first aid kit on their plot.
